Indian startups and Lay Off

Recently Indian startups laid off 2454 employees in 65 days

  • Cars24: 600
  • Vedantu: 624
  • Meesho: 150
  • Unacademy: 600
  • Furlenco: 180
  • Trell: 300
  • And the list goes on ……..

Here’s are few observation about the start up business :-

  • Raise Funding
  • Show investors that majority investment would be needed to hire manpower
  • Hire as many people as possible
  • Give people high salary so they leave their current jobs and join their company
  • No business model
  • Investor pressure for achieving profitability
  • When you fail to achieve profits, lay off as many people you hired
  • When company still fails to achieve profits, make the company public
  • Company goes public, issue IPO
  • When company still fails to achieve profits, the stock price goes down and down
  • Public loses money

Aren’t majority of the start ups founded by IIT and IIM rankers ?

Who is benefiting in this whole game?

  • The founders who become millionaires and billionaires
  • The investors (Rich become richer)

Who is at loss?

  • The innocent young people who have just started their career
  • The great skilled employees who had left their existing jobs due to high salary package
  • The employees who find it difficult to find a similar job package.

Result :-

  • Its all about the game of false valuation.
  • Destroying the young talents morale which leads to depression
  • Failed leadership and immense pressure to achieve impossible.
  • Making 1000s of people jobless

If anything we learn is that there is no respect and value for humanity.
Are these companies really great ? Are these founders actually brilliant who don’t have business mind and strategy? Are these investors making an impact in any one’s life? Is this helping the economy of the country?

These companies can never do good as everyone who were laid off or resigned would never have good things to say. They would only curse !

Very few start up companies have actually made an impact in people’s life. This is a wake up call for all entrepreneurs who think of starting a company.

A company should not be judged by the profits it’s made (no start up has ever made profits) but by the number of people who’ve exited the organization.
If you start valuing humanity and respect talent only then you are a great leader! Let’s become good leaders first.
“Business is not about money, Business is about people”
“Make money, don’t let money make you”
